We cant do the heavy whipped cream either...even though I would love to make this your way...I will experiment with the recipe and use soy creamer or soy milk. That's what I use in my regular French toast recipe and it works great. Also, I agree...Cool Whip is not even close, grammy2913 must realize...you don't WHIP the heavy cream.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 3/4 cup whipping cream

  • 1 can refrigerated original breadsticks 3/4

Method

  • 01
Bake breadsticks without twisting as directed on can. Cool completely.
  • 02
Meanwhile, in 1-quart saucepan, heat cream over medium-low heat. Stir in sugar until dissolved. Remove from heat; cool.
  • 03
Heat oven to 350°F. Add eggs to sweetened cream; beat lightly with a whisk. 4
  • 04
With small knife, score baked breadsticks lengthwise (make sure you don't cut the breadsticks in two, just a little on the top). Dip each breadstick into the egg-cream mixture, turning to coat both sides and allowing breadstick to soak up some of the mixture. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • 05
Stuff chocolate chips inside each breadstick. (To make sure the breadsticks soak up plenty of the egg-cream mixture, press them with your fingers to gently break the crust. And to speed up the process, let a breadstick soak in the mixture while you stuff the previous one with chocolate chips.)
  • 06
Once all breadsticks are stuffed, bake 10 minutes. Serve warm.
