This classic apple pie recipe reduces your time in the kitchen by using a mixture of homemade and prepared ingredients. The best part is no one will know the difference! At the end of the day, you’re left with an incredibly simple dessert, that tastes delicious, and looks like you spent lots of time on it.

Ingredients

Apple Pie Assembly

  • 1 tbsp. butter

  • 1 can apple pie filling

  • 2 refrigerated rolled pie crusts

Homemade Pie Filling

  • 2 tbsp. cornstarch

  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 cups apples peeled and sliced

Method

  • 01
Place apples, sugar, water, cinnamon, and cornstarch in a medium saucepan. Stir to combine and then bring to a boil over medium heat.
  • 02
Boil the mixture for 2 minutes and then reduce temperature to low and simmer. Stirring the mixture often, cook until the apples are tender but not mushy. This will be for about 5-8 minutes depending on the type of apple.
  • 03
Remove the mixture from the stove and cool. You want this mixture to be cooled to room temperature before moving on to the pie assembly. I like to make my filling the night before and cool in the refrigerator.
  • 04
Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and place an oven rack in the center of the oven.
  • 05
Remove pie crusts from the refrigerator and allow to come to room temperature for 15 minutes. Slowly unroll the pie crusts, being careful not to tear the dough. Line one 9 inch pie pan with bottom crust.
  • 06
Mix homemade and prepared pie filling together and fill pie pan. Dot the top with butter. Use the top pie crust to do a lattice crust. When finished, trim the edges and crimp the outside of the pie.
  • 07
Bake for 35 minutes, or until crust is golden. Remove pie from oven and allow to cool to room temperature before serving.
