Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 8 oz. tomato sauce

  • 1 tsp. onion powder

  • 1/2 tsp. smoked paprika

  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper

  • 1 tsp. garlic powder

  • 1 tsp. black pepper

  • 2 tsp. kosher salt

  • 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour

  • 1 onion diced

  • 1 carrot shredded

  • 2 1/2 pounds beef chuck fat trimmed

Method

  • 01
Combine all ingredients except for tomato sauce and water in the insert of an Instant Pot and mix. Pour the tomato sauce and water and stir again.
  • 02
Cover with the lid and turn to seal. Turn the steam valve to "SEALING". Press "Pressure Cook" OR "Manual" on "High Pressure", then increase time to 45 minutes.
  • 03
Once 45 minutes has elapsed and the timer beeps, turn the pressure cooker off and allow the pressure to naturally release (about 10-15 minutes). Then throw a kitchen towel over the steam valve and release the rest of the pressure by turning the steam valve to "venting".
  • 04
Crock Pot Option: Combine all ingredients but the water and tomato sauce and stir. Add the water and the tomato sauce and stir again. Cook on low for 7-8 hours, or on High for 3-4 hours or until the beef is fork-tender.
